Build queue and Teach Desktop build
Steps 1–3 of the build-speed plan, and Teach phase 1 on Desktop
Lead: The build queue, the release-train rule and binary reuse are in platform PR #1884, which waits for your merge. Desktop b6385 (current main) is installed. It waits on the macOS Keychain prompt on your screen.
Waiting on you
Desktop b6385 stops at 60% ("Starting fabric worker…") until you type the login password and click Always Allow. Unsigned builds ask again after each update.
What PR #1884 adds
| Step | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Build queue | scripts/build-queue: one lane for the whole Mac. need desktop --contains <sha> answers once: 0 = built, it waits for a build that will contain the commit, 3 = no build will |
tested |
| 2 Release train | AGENTS.md: sessions test and merge, the queue ships main once per batch | written |
| 3 Binary reuse | scripts/bin-cache: reuses a sidecar when the files in cargo's .d list, Cargo.lock, the toolchain and the env are unchanged |
used in the real build |
| Fix | A UI commit that was main when the build started still packages when main moves |
Desktop build results
Data
| reused | rebuilt | |
|---|---|---|
| Build 1 (0adac6c) | 3binaries | 2binaries |
| Build 2 (213adc7) | 4binaries | 1binaries |
Build 2 took 48 min. Only allternit-api compiled, because its sources changed on main. Factory alone took 25+ min before. Build 1 failed at packaging because ai main moved 19 commits during the build. The fix in row B4 stops that.
